You have probably heard the hype of collagen supplements. Every celebrity, from Kim Kardashian to Jennifer Aniston, have been raving about them and even promoting specific brands.
So we decided to test out a bunch of different ones and pick our top-5 list of The Best Collagen Powders of 2023. However, first we’d like to dive deeper into the benefits of collagen powders, what they are and why they’re good for us.
What Is Collagen And Why Do We Need It?
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body, and it’s the mainly found in the connective tissues that make up different body parts, including the skin, hair, and nails but also tendons, ligaments and muscles. It is responsible for maintaining the structure and strength of these tissues and plays a vital role in the overall health and appearance of skin and bones.
As we age, our bodies produce less collagen, leading to the visible signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, and saggy skin. This is where beauty collagen boosters come in.
Why Is Collagen Powder Good For You?
Research shows that collagen supplements have a wide range of health benefits. The most commonly known benefits involve beauty products, which promote improved health of skin, hair and nails. However, there are actually many other health benefits with taking a collagen supplement. So let’s take a look at all of these benefits for the entire body.
8 Collagen Health Benefits For The Whole Body
- Skin: May help slow aging of the skin, reducing wrinkles and fine lines, improving elasticity and hydration, leaving a glowing healthy skin
- Hair: Adds strength and shine to the hair and allows it to grow longer
- Nails: Promotes stronger nails by preventing brittleness
- Gut health: Although not scientifically proven, many practitioners witness of improved gut health while taking collagen powders. It may also promote weight loss.
- Joints & Bones: Collagen may relieve joint pain. Some studies even show that it may help improve symptoms of osteoarthritis, as well as inhibit the bone breakdown that may lead to osteoporosis.
- Muscles: Taking a collagen supplement regularly may boost muscle mass
- Brain health: There’s no studies yet that have examined the correlation between taking a collagen supplement and brain health. However, many users witness of improved mood and a reduction in anxiety.
- Heart health: Collagen is a part of the structural walls of arteries. Without it, arteries and veins may become less elastic. Some studies show that collagen supplements may lead to less stiffness of the arteries and thus better heart health. However, more research is needed on collagen and heart health.
What Ingredients To Look For In Collagen Products
Collagen powder and beauty collagen boosters are products that are designed to stimulate the production of collagen in the body, helping to improve the appearance of the skin and combat the signs of aging. These products can come in the form of topical creams, serums, and supplements, and they typically contain ingredients that are known to support collagen synthesis.
Some of the most common ingredients found in beauty collagen boosters include:
- Vitamin C: Vitamin C is essential for the production of collagen and is also a powerful antioxidant. It helps to protect the skin from free radical damage, which can lead to collagen breakdown.
- Silica: Silica is a trace mineral that is found in the connective tissues of the body, including the skin. It is believed to support healthy hair, skin, and nails.
- Hyaluronic acid: Hyaluronic acid is a humectant that helps to keep the skin hydrated and plump. It can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by filling in the gaps between collagen fibers.
- Biotin: Biotin is a B-vitamin that is essential for the metabolism of fats and carbohydrates. It is also believed to support healthy hair and nails.
- Retinoids: Retinoids, such as retinol and retinoic acid, are derivatives of vitamin A. They help to stimulate collagen production and can improve the texture and tone of the skin.
- Copper peptides: Copper peptides are small molecules that have been shown to support collagen synthesis and promote wound healing. They are often used in products designed to improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
- Other vitamins and minerals: Collagen powders may also contain other vitamins and minerals such as vitamin E, zinc, and copper, which may offer additional benefits for the skin and overall health.
Use Collagen As Supplement To An Overall Routine
While beauty collagen boosters can be effective at improving the appearance of the skin, hair and nails, it’s important to note that they are not a magic solution. Collagen synthesis occurs gradually, and it may take several weeks or months of consistent use to see noticeable results. In addition, it’s important to use these products as part of a broader skincare and nutritional routine.
Overall, beauty collagen boosters can be a useful addition to any skincare and nutritional routine, particularly for those looking to combat the signs of aging. By stimulating collagen production, these products can help to improve the appearance of the skin, hair and nails and give it a youthful, radiant glow.

Obvi Super Collagen Protein has it all. Not only does it strengthen hair and nails, make your skin super bouncy and smooth and reduce joint pain, its delicious flavors also makes it a true joy to take it every day.
A+ Overall Best Collagen Powder 🏆
Absolutely the best collagen powder out there. Our entire team tested Obvi and had great experiences and results within 2-4 weeks. The flavors are amazing! Our favorite is Marshmallow Cereal but there are many other delicious flavors.

Overall a great product! Although it doesn’t have all the added vitamins and minerals as our #1 pick, it works great and the hyaluronic acid is good for added skin benefits.
Awesome!
Vital Proteins’ Collagen Peptides is a close second. Endorsed by celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, it gained huge traction on the market, and we must say that it lives up to the hype. It’s a great product that does the job, and we love the addition of hyaluronic acid for further skin boosting properties.

This hair growth duo from Nutrafol is a great option, but not for the bargain shopper. The price is really high, which brings down the overall rating.
Great!
Although this product is great for hair growth, it’s unclear what it does for skin, nails and joints. It’s also very expensive and you have to buy the collagen product with the hair-growth nutraceuticals.

The Skinnyfit Super Youth Collagen has 5 different types of collagen and it also has a fresh fruity flavor. However, it lacks some of the other minerals that help with uptake of the collagen.
Good!
It’s a good product that includes 5 different collagens, but the lack of other minerals means you have to take it with another supplement for maximum absorption. Also some customers complain about poor efficiency and nausea, which might have to do with this.

The Foundation Beauty Elixir from Hair La Vie is a good collagen supplement, which includes probiotics and blue spirulina for added benefits. But is the product trying to be too many things? We think so, as it contains less actual collagen than competing brands.
Good!
It’s a good collagen product, but the inclusion of all kinds of other ingredients reduces the amount of collagen per serving. The marine ingredients also gives the product a fishy smell.
